Construction Director - Data Centres - Main Contractor

A Tier 1 Main Contractor is embarking on an exciting journey in the setup of a brand new Data Centre Division. 

My client have entrusted us with an exclusive search for a brand new division for their already well renowned business. They have strong relationships with some of the worlds biggest retail and e-commerce names, these relationships have resulted in their clients approaching them to build data centres for them.

We are looking for a gold standard candidate to lead, develop and champion the setup of this division successfully. This is truly one of the best roles on the market and one we are keen to secure the right person for.

The Role

Your focus spans both overseeing successful project delivery and ensuring the company continuously wins new business. This involves leadership, strategic decision-making, business development, and a constant focus on delivering quality results while maintaining profitability.

• Provide leadership to the construction teams and ensure efficient project delivery.
• Collaborate with senior management to develop business strategies and improve operational processes.
• Set overall objectives for project completion, safety standards, and quality control.
• Bid Management: Lead and participate in the preparation of winning proposals, including tender submissions, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
• Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients. Develop partnerships to ensure repeat business.
• Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of construction projects.
• Ensure that the construction projects comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and all legal standards.
• Monitor project progress and costs, making adjustments where necessary to avoid delays and overruns.
• Ensure effective communication between project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and clients.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the construction team, ensuring they have the skills and resources required to deliver high-quality results.
• Set performance targets and evaluate team performance regularly.
• Hire and train staff, including project managers, engineers, and site managers.
• Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial objectives are met and cost overruns are minimized.
• Oversee invoicing, payment schedules, and contract compliance.
• Work with the finance department to assess and approve financial reports for each project.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all site workers by enforcing strict adherence to health and safety protocols.
• Conduct safety audits and risk assessments regularly to identify potential hazards and take proactive measures to mitigate them.
• Ensure that the work meets the required standards and specifications through regular quality checks and inspections.
• Resolve any quality-related issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with projects to avoid delays, accidents, or legal issues.
• Implement strategies to handle unexpected challenges and provide timely solutions.
• Regularly report on project progress, challenges, and achievements to senior management and clients.
• Ensure transparent communication between all stakeholders, including subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.
• Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Ensure all contracts are signed, and terms are followed, including compliance with scope, schedule, and financial terms.
