Senior Quantity Surveyor - Tier 1 MEP Contractor

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading national building services contractor who are recruiting for an M&E commercial lead for a Life science project in Reading, Berkshire. This is a senior, client facing role with responsibility for overseeing the full commercial function for the M&E packages, including leadership of more junior QS support.

The Project: £50m (Build Value) Commercial Office Refurbishment:

Reading - £50m Commercial office Scheme 83 weeks duration, cut & carve of existing 10 storey steel frame building with basement. CAT A to Tenant areas and CAT B to landlord areas. Encompassing circa 210,000 sq ft of space, the building features majority open plan office accommodation, with a large double-height atrium reception space and extensive staff amenities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Taking overall commercial responsibility for the M&E works from pre-contract through to final account
• Leading cost planning, forecasting and financial reporting for the M&E packages, ensuring robust cost control and margin protection
• Managing and mentoring junior / intermediate M&E QSs, providing guidance, reviews and support on commercial best practice
• Procuring and administering subcontract packages, including preparation and negotiation of contracts, variations and claims
• Managing change control processes, including identification, valuation and agreement of variations and compensation events
• Preparing and reviewing CVRs, cashflow forecasts, cost/value reconciliations and monthly commercial reports
• Leading commercial meetings with the client, PQS and key subcontractors, including progress, risk and financial reviews
• Overseeing measurement and valuation of M&E works, validating subcontractor applications and ensuring timely, accurate main contract applications
• Supporting contractual risk management, ensuring compliance with contract conditions (e.g. NEC/JCT) and company procedures
• Working closely with project management, design and engineering teams to manage risk, optimise value and support successful project delivery
